A hands-on introduction to IBM watsonx.data

Hands-on session (on-site/in-person only):
IBM watsonx.data is IBM’s open data lakehouse platform. In this lab you will be provided with access to your own dedicated watsonx.data environment and you will get hands-on experience in the following areas:

  • The watsonx.data web-based user interface, including infrastructure management, data management, and running SQL statements
  • The Presto command line interface
  • MinIO object storage
  • Ingesting data into watsonx.data
  • Creating schemas and tables
  • Running queries that combine data from multiple data sources (data federation)
  • Offloading tables from Db2 into watsonx.data
  • Time travel queries and rolling back a table to a previous point in time

Important Note: You will need to bring your own laptop computer to be able to access the lab environment. It is recommended that you bring your own personal laptop computer, rather than your work laptop. Some companies (particularly in the financial industry) lock down their laptops in a way that the lab environment may not be accessible. You can test access in advance by opening the two links below and verifying that the pages of this test environment load correctly (however, please DO NOT LOGIN and use them in any way). Your browser may warn you of a potential security risk for the first link, but this is expected. Choose to ignore the risk and continue
